Praying for the Persecuted Church in Eritrea

based on the Open Doors 2018 World Watch List

This northeast African nation was formed only in 1993 after 30+ years of war with Ethiopia.  Voters have only one political party, one state-controlled media, and a government run by a paranoid dictatorship.  While nearly half of the 5½ million citizens are Christian in this country about the size of Ohio, the government determines which churches are allowed to exist and worship.  Christians are commonly accused of being ‘agents’ of the West.  They are harassed, arrested, and murdered.  Muslims, meanwhile, are becoming more radicalized, increasing the levels of persecution against Christians.

Prayer points:

  • For the thousands of Christians imprisoned in Eritrea.
  • For endurance for brothers and sisters in Christ who have been held captive for over a decade.
  • For God’s abundant grace and power for church leaders.
